Place it in the bottom of the bore before you hone, magnet will catch all debris, then remove magnet and wipe bore clean. Check fit. This means that you may need to replace 2 lifters or 32 lifters or somewhere in between. Add to that the cost of gaskets, bolts, and other parts and it can get quite expensive. An alternative is to purchase a complete lifter replacement kit such as this one for a 2007-2014 GM 5.3L engine.
